Botafogo have finally succeeded in securing the services of Milan, Netherlands, and general footballing legend, Clarence Seedorf. The Dutchman who was born in Suriname, agreed terms on a two year deal today after spending the last week training with the LA Galaxy in the US, which led to rumours that he would join the MLS club.

As previously mentioned on this site, Seedorf’s Brazilian other half might have given him a nudge towards joining the Rio club, as there was no shortage of interested parties for a player who is still world class even in his later years. There were rumours of offers from clubs in the English Premier League, as well as interest from the clubs with growing financial clout in the Chinese league, but Seedorf decided that he’d spend his last years as a professional player at Botafogo.
As well as being a great signing for the club, it will also send out a message that the Brazilian league is on the up, and can attract big name signings to play in the Brasileirao and challenge for success in the Copa Libertadores. More and more European players are linked with moves to Brazil every week, and the signing of Seedorf might encourage a few more to follow suit.
