Guangzhou Evergrande have finally completed the signing of Botafogo’s young Brazilian midfield star Elkeson, for a fee of just over £5m. As is the case with many South American players, his contract wasn’t owned entirely by the club and Botafogo will receive just 35% of the transfer fee. The transfer will be completed fully in January when he can be registered for the Chinese club at the start of their season and player registration window.
This will be a big loss for Botafogo as they are losing their top scorer from last season, and one of their most promising young players who had recently been in the picture for the Brazil national side.
